Long Overdue Update
Hello Friends and Family!
Who new six months could fly by without a moment to spare. Since October's General Conference our lives have been in the grasp of the mission call process. Add to that a job change, college for three of our six family members, and enough snow to make us think we were still living in Minnesota, and busy is often an understatement.
So, here is a family update:
Vern: Vern is still the first counselor in Young Men's along with the Scouting Varsity leader and the Teacher Quorum advisor. Since the last update he has attended many scouting events, including a 50 mile bike ride, the Klondike, Youth Conference trek and is now gearing up for Scout Camp. He continues to teach computer classes at the community college, and has corporate computer classes he instructs lined up throughout the summer. His business is faring well, but the economy is still very weak and many families are still struggling. His business has not blossomed the way he had hoped, but he is still working hard to make it successful. He is so good at what he does! We continue to pray that what God has planned for his life is revealed.
Chantel: Chantel completed her work as a pediatric RN at Bothwell Regional Health Center in February and began working at John Fitzgibbon Hospital in March as a women's health/neonatal RN. She has spent the last 3.5 months learning new skills in orientation. Occasionally there are days that are tough, but overall she is really enjoying learning in her new position. She really likes working at Fitzgibbon Hospital and has been able to orientate on days which has really helped her feel better. It is amazing what sleeping at night will do for a person. Chantel has been slowly working through her bachelor of science degree online with Capella University. She is three classes away from having her BSN. She will then move on to her master's degree with a double degree in midwifery and family nurse practitioner. Chantel has been busy with preparations for the youth trek and young women's camp nurse, work, school and trying to be mom during some very busy times in our home.
Victoria: Victoria has decided to change majors and schools to expand her opportunities. She will be going to the University of Missouri Columbia and changing her major to Wildlife Management with a minor in equine sciences. She has also decided that it is time to live off campus so is looking forward to eventually getting her own apartment. Victoria came home in May after she finished her semester at Stephen's to be here through the summer. She just recently got a job with Autozone, which she is really enjoying learning more about vehicles. Victoria has been dating Jake for about 3 months now.
Cody: Sister Haynes as of June 19, 2013. Cody submitted her mission papers just after the first of the year and was called to labor in the Texas Houston South Mission for the next 18 months as a Missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Cody is one of many young missionaries that have left their families for a full-time mission since October 2012 when the announcement was made that the missionary age was being lowered for young women from 21 to 19 years of age. So, Cody finished her semester at college while trying to get herself ready to leave home in June. It is amazing how many things need to be done before sending a missionary into the mission field! Cody is super excited! She will be in the MTC from June 19-July 2 when she reaches her mission home. She will make an amazing sister missionary!
Cyrus: Cyrus just turned 16 years old. He completed his freshman year and his first year of seminary. He will be a sophomore at the start of the school year, has now moved into the Priests quorum, and he can now go on group dates. Cyrus obtained his diver's permit in April and has been eagerly learning how to drive. Cyrus advanced to Varsity scout, attended Warrensburg Youth Trek, and will be attending scout camp this summer.
Jared: We always get to Jared and wish we had more to share, but compared to his siblings, his life seems quite quiet. Jared is now almost as tall as Cyrus, and still surging upward. He was able to ride over 25 miles on the scout bike trip, is going to scout camp with Vern and Cyrus, and has once again found stray animal after stray animal to feed on the front porch.
Some of the fun things we have done this year:
We raised chickens, built a cute homemade chicken coup, camped overnight at World's of Fun for opening day and spent the whole day riding rides, planted the garden, and cut up fallen tree branches and made a snowman when a surprise heavy snow came through Missouri.
